Peter Hussing (born May 15, 1948 – died September 8, 2012) was a famous boxer from West Germany. He was known for competing in the heavyweight category, which means he was one of the biggest and strongest boxers.

Peter Hussing won a bronze medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He also competed in the 1976 and 1984 Olympics. He could not go to the 1980 Moscow Games because West Germany decided not to participate.

Peter Hussing's Boxing Career

Peter Hussing was a very successful boxer for many years. He won many medals in different competitions. He was especially good at the European championships.

European Championship Medals

Peter Hussing won four medals at the European Amateur Boxing Championships:

  • In 1969, he won a bronze medal.
  • In 1971, he won a silver medal.
  • In 1973, he won another silver medal.
  • In 1979, he won a gold medal, which was a great achievement!

He also missed the 1977 tournament because of a boycott, similar to the Olympics.

National Champion

Peter Hussing was also a champion in his home country. He won a record 16 national titles in West Germany. He won these titles between 1969 and 1983, and again in 1985. This shows how consistently good he was for many years.

Olympic Journey in 1972

Peter Hussing competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics as a heavyweight boxer. Here is how he did:

  • First Round: He did not have to fight in the first round. This is called a "bye."
  • Quarterfinal: He fought Oscar Ludena from Peru. Peter Hussing won this fight very quickly. He knocked out his opponent in the first round.
  • Semifinal: He then faced Teofilo Stevenson from Cuba. Teofilo Stevenson was a very strong boxer. Peter Hussing lost this fight in the second round. He lost by a technical knockout. Even though he lost, winning a bronze medal was a big accomplishment!

Life After Boxing

After his boxing career, Peter Hussing used his education in a different field. He had a degree in architecture from the University of Siegen. He worked as a construction manager in his hometown of Brachbach. He passed away in 2012 at the age of 64.
