Peter Oxford (born July 23, 1970) is an Australian dancer and business leader. He is most famous for starting the Showcase Australian Dance Championships.

Early Life and Dance

Peter Oxford grew up in Mount Druitt, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. He was adopted when he was one year old. Peter started dancing at a young age. He performed in many TV shows and stage productions. He also won dance competitions both in Australia and other countries like the United States. In 1988, he opened his own dance school in Sydney, called the Oxford Academy of Dance. He ran this school until the year 2000.

Creating Dance Competitions

In March 1994, Peter Oxford created Showcase Dance. This was Australia's very first national dance competition. When it began, about 7,000 dance acts took part each year. By 2016, this number grew to 19,000 acts! Showcase Dance has been held in 20 cities across Australia and New Zealand. In 1995, Peter also started the Dancer of the Year Pageant. Later, in 2015, he launched a second competition called Hollywood Bound. This event happens at the same time as Showcase Dance.

Helping the Dance Industry

Peter Oxford has also judged dance competitions around the world. He has been a judge in the United States, Canada, Portugal, New Zealand, and Singapore. He has also produced shows in the US and Malaysia. In 2007, he hosted the World Dance Championship in Las Vegas. Peter has worked hard to make the Australian dance industry better and safer. In 2014, he brought together major dance groups and studios. They worked on ideas to create a national group for dance. They also planned a program for child safety training and a way to officially approve dance schools.
