Peters Club facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Peters Club was an Australian television show made for children. It started in 1958 and ran until 1959. The show was broadcast on a TV channel called GTV-9. Back then, many Australian TV shows were only shown on one TV channel. They weren't shared across many channels like they are today. Peters Club was probably like this too.

Who Was in the Show?

The show featured actors like Rod McLennan and Judy Banks. A funny comedian named Joff Ellen was also in it. At the same time, Joff Ellen was also playing a schoolboy in another TV show called Take That.

Why Was it Called Peters Club?

The show's name, Peters Club, came from its sponsor, Peters Ice Cream. In the 1950s, it was common for TV shows to include the sponsor's name in their title. This happened in Australia and America. For example, other shows like The Dulux Show and Tarax Show also had sponsor names in their titles. Peters Ice Cream also sponsored other TV acts, like the clowns Zig and Zag, who wore ice cream cone hats on Channel 7.

What Happened to the Show's Episodes?

Not much information is available about Peters Club today. We know that a newspaper called Truth gave it an award for being the "Best Children's Show" in Melbourne. The show was made by a company called Crawford Productions.

It's not known if any episodes of Peters Club still exist. In the early days of Australian television, shows were often performed live. They were recorded using a special method called kinescope recordings before videotape was invented. Many live shows from that time were not recorded, so their episodes are now lost.
