Petersburg, Missouri facts for kids
Petersburg is a small place in Henry County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
History of Petersburg
Petersburg has had a few different names over time, including "Carrsville" and "Petersburgh."
The community was first known as Carrsville. It started in the 1870s and got its name from a place nearby called Carrsville Mill. A post office opened in Carrsville in 1872.
Later, in 1881, the name of the post office and the community changed to Petersburgh. However, the post office eventually closed in 1902. The name "Petersburg" today honors a local merchant (someone who bought and sold goods) named Peter Lane.
