The Petite rivière Savane (which means Little Savannah River in English) is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Sainte-Anne River, which then empties into the Saint Lawrence River.
This river is located in an area called Lac-Jacques-Cartier. This region is part of the La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality in the Capitale-Nationale area.
The main activities in this river valley are forestry (cutting down trees for wood) and recreational tourism (like hiking or fishing).
The river usually freezes over from early December to late March. It's safest to walk on the ice from mid-December to mid-March. The water level changes with the seasons and how much rain or snow falls. The biggest flood usually happens in March or April.

Where Does the River Start?
The Petite rivière Savane begins where three small mountain streams meet. This spot is on the west side of Mont Bleu, in the Lac-Jacques-Cartier area.
This starting point is:
- About 2.6 kilometres (1.6 miles) east of the Brûlée River.
- About 0.7 kilometres (0.4 miles) southeast of the top of Mont Raoul-Blanchard, which is 1,159 metres (3,802 feet) high.
- About 2.6 kilometres (1.6 miles) southwest of the top of Mont Bleu, which is 1,150 metres (3,770 feet) high.
- About 5.9 kilometres (3.7 miles) southwest of where the Petite rivière Savane ends.
The River's Journey
The Petite rivière Savane flows for about 10.1 kilometres (6.3 miles). It goes around Mont Bleu to the north. As it flows, the river drops about 822 metres (2,697 feet) in height.
Here's how its journey goes:
- For the first 2.7 kilometres (1.7 miles), it flows east, then northeast. It crosses a lake that is about 0.8 kilometres (0.5 miles) long and 1,040 metres (3,410 feet) high.
- Then, for 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles), it flows northeast, dropping 289 metres (948 feet). It bends southeast, going around Mont Bleu. Here, it meets a stream coming from the northwest.
- Finally, for 3.6 kilometres (2.2 miles), it flows southeast, dropping 113 metres (371 feet). It makes a small turn northeast to collect another stream coming from the north, before reaching its end.
Where Does the River End?
The Petite rivière Savane flows into the Sainte-Anne River. This happens in the Lac-Jacques-Cartier area. It's across from the northern edge of Saint-Tite-des-Caps.
This meeting point is:
- About 12.7 kilometres (7.9 miles) west of the Saint Lawrence River.
- About 13.9 kilometres (8.6 miles) southwest of the village of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François.
- About 16.9 kilometres (10.5 miles) north of the village of Saint-Tite-des-Caps.
From this point, the water from the Petite rivière Savane travels about 36.9 kilometres (22.9 miles) along the Sainte-Anne River. The Sainte-Anne River flows through downtown Beaupré before reaching the Saint Lawrence River.
Name of the River
The name "Petite rivière Savane" was officially recognized on March 25, 1997. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special group that names places in Quebec.
