Peñaflor Castle facts for kids
Peñaflor Castle is an old castle found in a town called Cuerva, which is in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It's a cool historical building that tells us a lot about the past!
History of Peñaflor Castle
Peñaflor Castle was probably built a long, long time ago, in the 1200s. This was during the time when Alfonso X of Castile, a king of Spain, was ruling.
Later, in the 1400s, a person named Guevara bought the castle from Henry IV of Castile, who was another king. After that, the castle was sold again to a man named Garcilaso de la Vega. He was the father of a famous poet who had the same name!
The castle was then passed down to Garcilaso's oldest son, Pedro Laso de la Vega. Pedro lived in the town of Cuerva. By the end of the 1500s, the castle started to fall apart and people stopped living in it. It became abandoned.
