Helping Henry Tudor
Philibert de Chandée played a key role in helping Henry Tudor, who later became King Henry VII of England. Henry Tudor was living away from England, in a place called Brittany, France. Chandée welcomed and supported him during this time.
When Henry Tudor decided to return to England to try and become king, Chandée became a commander. He led a group of French soldiers who helped Henry's army. Their goal was to challenge King Richard III and take the crown.
Landing in England
When Henry Tudor's forces landed in England at Milford Haven, Chandée was honored for his support. He was made a knight right there, showing his importance to Henry's cause.
The Battle of Bosworth
The most famous event Chandée was part of was the Battle of Bosworth. This battle was fought between Henry Tudor and King Richard III. During the fight, King Richard, who was from the Yorkist family, made a sudden attack with his horsemen. He tried to quickly end the battle by attacking Henry Tudor himself.
However, a special battle move, which was usually taught by Swiss soldiers, helped Henry. Also, Thomas Stanley and his forces joined in at a crucial moment. Their help saved Henry Tudor and led to King Richard III being defeated and killed. This victory meant Henry Tudor became the new King of England.
Becoming an Earl
After Henry Tudor became King Henry VII, he gave special honors to those who had helped him. Philibert de Chandée was one of the few people to receive a high noble title from the new king.
He was made the Earl of Bath. This important title was given to him either on October 16, 1485, just before the king's coronation, or on January 6, 1486.
Not much is known about Philibert de Chandée after he received his title as Earl.
