Philip Bedingfield was the son of Thomas Bedingfield. His mother was Dorothy Southwell. His family lived in a place called Darsham in Suffolk.
Philip went to college at Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1609. Later, in 1611, he studied law at Gray's Inn. In 1636, when his father passed away, Philip inherited the family estate in Darsham. However, he seemed to live mostly in Ditchingham, Norfolk.
His Time in Politics
In 1654, Philip Bedingfield became a Member of Parliament. This is like being an elected representative in today's government. He was chosen to represent the area of Norfolk.
He served in a special government group called the First Protectorate Parliament. This was a time when England was ruled by Oliver Cromwell, who was called the Lord Protector.
