Philip Henrik Hansteen
Philip Henrik Hansteen (born in 1817) was an important Norwegian judge. He spent his life working in the legal system of Norway.
Hansteen was born in a town called Moss. He studied law and became a "Candidate of Law" (cand.jur.) in 1840. This means he completed his university studies in law.
Early Career in Law
From 1840 to 1842, Philip Hansteen worked as a deputy judge at the Moss District Court. A deputy judge helps the main judge and learns how the court works.
Later, he became a "district stipendiary magistrate" for the Sør-Østerdal District Court. This is a type of judge who handles many different legal cases in a specific area. He worked there from 1854 to 1869.
After that, he moved to the Solør District Court and continued his work as a judge from 1869 to 1879.
Reaching the Supreme Court
In 1879, Philip Hansteen reached a very high position in the legal system. He became a "Supreme Court Assessor." The Supreme Court is the highest court in a country. An assessor helps the Supreme Court judges make important decisions. He held this important role for the rest of his life.
