The Philippine Space Agency, often called PhilSA, is a special part of the Philippine government. Its main job is to help the Philippines explore space. This includes launching satellites and working on other space-related projects. PhilSA helps the country use space technology for many good things.
How PhilSA Started
PhilSA was created by a special law called Republic Act No. 11363. This law was officially signed on August 8, 2019. A law is like a big rule that the government makes. This law made PhilSA an official organization.
Even before PhilSA was created, the Philippines was already involved in space projects. For example, the Philippines’ Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) helped launch the first Filipino-made object into orbit. This was a satellite named DIWATA-1, launched in 2016. Another important satellite, Agila 2, followed in 2018.
Where PhilSA Works
PhilSA's main buildings and facilities are planned to be finished in 2022. For now, PhilSA operates from the Clark Special Economic Zone. This zone is located in Pampanga and Tarlac. It used to be a large American air base.
