Phillip Brett, born in 1991, is a politician from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Belfast North. He has held this role since the 2022 election. Mr. Brett also speaks for the DUP on economic matters. He leads the Committee for the Economy at the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Phillip Brett's Political Journey
Starting in Local Government
Phillip Brett began his political career in local government. He was first chosen to be part of the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council in 2014. He represented the Glengormley Urban area. Voters chose him again in 2019 to continue serving on the council. He served on the council until May 2022.
Serving in the Northern Ireland Assembly
In the 2022 election for the Northern Ireland Assembly, Phillip Brett was elected. He became one of two DUP MLAs representing Belfast North. MLAs help make laws and decisions for Northern Ireland.
Running in the 2024 General Election
In May 2024, Phillip Brett announced he would run for a seat in the UK Parliament. He wanted to represent Belfast North in the 2024 United Kingdom general election. He said he wanted to provide "full-time representation" for the area.
In the election, he received 12,062 votes. This was 29.8% of all votes cast. He came in second place. The winner was John Finucane from Sinn Féin, who was already the MP.
