Phleng chāt Thai (เพลงชาติไทย) is Thai for "Thai national anthem". The shorter title Phleng chāt (เพลงชาติ) is also used. The music was composed in 1932 by Thai musician Phra Chenduriyang and it was adopted later that year without lyrics. Then in 1939, when the country's name was changed from "Siam" to "Thailand", lyrics (words) written by Luang Saranupraphan were made official after winning a competition.

Thailand also has a royal anthem called Sansœ̄n Phra Bāramī (สรรเสริญพระบารมี).

The flesh and blood of ev'ry Thai united,
The land of Thailand to the Thais belongeth,
Their sovereignty hath always long endured,
For the Thais love and unity pursueth,
Though the Thais love peace, dauntlessly we fight;
No tyrant can take our freedom away,
The Thais will give up every drop of blood,
Long last the nation's pride and victory, hooray!

Trivia
