Phoebe's Early Life and Art Journey
Phoebe Donovan was born in Wexford, Ireland, in 1902. She learned at home for a while before going to a French school in Wexford. From a young age, Phoebe loved to paint. She started by joining a local art group.
Phoebe grew up on a farm. She worked hard raising animals and selling eggs. This helped her save money to follow her dream of going to art college. She even traveled to big cities like Rome and London to see more art and learn.
In 1927, Phoebe went to the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. She also studied at the Royal Hibernian Academy Schools in Dublin. A famous artist named Sean Keating taught her how to paint amazing portraits.
Sharing Her Art with the World
Phoebe held her first art show with the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1931. She also showed her work with the Water Colour Society of Ireland in 1933. She became a member of this society in 1948.
Phoebe was very active in the art world. She was part of the Society of Dublin Painters during the 1930s and 1940s. She showed her paintings in many places, allowing people to enjoy her unique style.
Phoebe Donovan passed away in May 1998. She died in her childhood home in Ballymore, County Wexford. Her art continues to be remembered and appreciated.
