Physical body facts for kids
A physical body is what we call something you can touch and see, like a ball or a tree. In physics, it's a group of tiny pieces of mass that we think of as one single thing.
For example, a cricket ball is a physical body. Even though it's made of many small parts, we see it and use it as one whole object.
A human or animal's physical body is also a physical body. It's made of different organs and tissues, like your heart, lungs, and skin. It's the part of a living being that you can physically interact with.

What is a Physical Body?
A physical body is basically any object that takes up space and has weight. It can be something small, like a grain of sand, or something huge, like a planet. The key idea is that we treat all its parts as one unit.
Examples of Physical Bodies
- A rock is a physical body. It's made of many minerals, but we see it as one rock.
- A car is a physical body. It has thousands of parts, but it works together as one vehicle.
- A book is a physical body. It's made of paper and ink, but it's a single item you can read.
- Even a cloud can be seen as a physical body. It's a collection of tiny water droplets, but it forms a visible shape in the sky.
How We Study Physical Bodies
Scientists, especially those who study physics, look at physical bodies to understand how they move, how they interact with each other, and what they are made of.
Motion and Forces
When you kick a football, you are applying a force to a physical body. Scientists study how that force makes the ball move, how fast it goes, and where it lands. This is called mechanics, a big part of physics.
Different States of Matter
Physical bodies can exist in different states:
- Solid: Like a table or a rock. They keep their shape.
- Liquid: Like water or juice. They take the shape of their container.
- Gas: Like the air you breathe. They spread out to fill any space.
- Plasma: A very hot gas, like inside a star.
All these are forms of physical bodies, just with different properties.
