About Pichucalco
Pichucalco is both a town and a larger area called a municipality. Think of a municipality as a county, and the town of Pichucalco is its main city.
Population and Size
In 2020, about 29,990 people lived in the Pichucalco municipality. This area covers about 1,078.1 square kilometers. That's a pretty big space!
The main town of Pichucalco had about 14,212 people living there in 2010. The rest of the municipality includes 86 smaller communities. The biggest of these was a rural area called Nuevo Nicapa.
Political Role
Pichucalco has an important role in local government. It has served as the main town for a special area called the second federal electoral district of Chiapas. This means it's a key place for elections and political decisions in that part of Chiapas. It held this role from 1996 to 2005 and again starting in 2024.
