Pickelville was once a small town in Utah, near the beautiful Bear Lake. It was about 121 miles (195 km) northeast of Salt Lake City. Today, Pickelville is no longer a separate town. It has become part of a bigger town called Garden City.

The Story of Pickelville

Pickelville started as a small settlement in 1879. It was located about 3 miles (5 km) south of Garden City. In 1935, Pickelville officially became an "incorporated" town. This means it gained its own local government and could make its own rules.

The town was named after a man named Charles C. Pickel. People say he was either an engineer who helped build the town's water system, or a government official. He might have helped the town get money from the Public Works Administration. This was a government program that helped fund big projects like water systems.

In 1979, Pickelville joined with Garden City. This merger helped them expand their water system even more.

Fun and Entertainment

The Pickelville area has been a place for fun for a long time. Since 1916, the Ideal Beach Amusement Company has been there.

A popular spot is the Pickleville Playhouse. This community theater started in 1977. Every summer, they put on two different shows. One is a funny old-fashioned play called a melodrama. The other is a Broadway-style musical.
