Piedra Volada facts for kids
Piedra Volada Falls is a super tall waterfall in Mexico! Its name means "Flying Rock" or "Flying Stone" in Spanish. This amazing waterfall drops 453 meters (about 1,485 feet) straight down. That's like falling from a very, very tall building! You can find it in a deep canyon called Barranca Candameña. This canyon is part of the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains in Chihuahua, Mexico.
Where to Find Piedra Volada Falls
This incredible waterfall is located in the Cañon Candameña. This canyon is part of the famous Copper Canyon area in Chihuahua, Mexico. The falls are found in the Ocampo Municipality.
At the very top of this canyon, you'll find another famous waterfall. It's called Cascada Basaseachi. This one is Mexico's third highest waterfall. It drops 243 meters (about 800 feet). Piedra Volada Falls is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) downstream from the top of the canyon. It's on the left side of the canyon wall.
When the Falls Flow
Piedra Volada Falls only flows during the wet season. This means you can only see its full power when there's a lot of rain. You can view the falls from a distance. There's a good spot near a place called Huahumar.
If you want to get closer, there's a hiking trail. This trail goes through private land near Ejido San Lorenzo. This area is now like a special park. It's managed by the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP). There is a small fee to enter, which is about 62 Mexican Pesos.
