The community of Pierces Chapel was named after a local church. This church was a Methodist chapel. It got its name from a very important person.

That person was Bishop George Foster Pierce. He was a leader in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Bishop Pierce once preached at this chapel. He was on his way to a big meeting for the Methodist Church in Texas. Because of his visit, the church, and later the community, took his name.
