Vincent Pieter Semeyn Esser, better known as Piet Esser, was a famous Dutch sculptor. He was born on March 9, 1914, in Baarn, Netherlands, and passed away on November 19, 2004. Esser created many beautiful sculptures that can still be seen today.
About Piet Esser
Piet Esser was part of a Dutch art group called "Groep van de figuratieve abstractie." This group focused on art that showed real things (figurative) but also used abstract shapes and ideas. It was a way of blending realistic art with more modern, imaginative styles.
In 1938, Piet Esser won a silver medal at the Prix de Rome. This is a very important award for young artists in the Netherlands. It helps them get recognized for their talent. Later, in 1947, he became a professor at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. This is a famous art academy where he taught many new artists.

- Watersnood 1953 (1957): This sculpture is located in the sculpture garden of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. It remembers the terrible North Sea flood of 1953, a major natural disaster that affected the Netherlands.
- Brederomonument (1968): Another monument in Amsterdam, this one celebrates Gerbrand Adriaensz Bredero. He was a famous Dutch writer and poet from the 17th century.
- Icarus (1974): This sculpture is in The Hague. It represents Icarus, a character from ancient Greek myths who tried to fly too close to the sun.
- Barmhartige Samaritaan (1976): This sculpture, found in Utrecht, shows the story of the Good Samaritan. It's a well-known story about kindness and helping others.
- Statue of Cornelis Lely (1984): This statue was made for Lelystad. It honors Cornelis Lely, a Dutch engineer who designed the Zuiderzee Works, a huge project to reclaim land from the sea. The statue was put up in 2002 but was later removed in 2003 at the sculptor's request.
