Pieter Egge Huistra (born January 18, 1967) is a Dutch football coach and former player. He played as a winger, which is a player who plays on the side of the field. Huistra played for the Scottish team Rangers from 1990 to 1995. After that, he moved to Japan to play for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the J. League.
In 2001, Pieter Huistra started his coaching career. He became the head coach for the youth team of Jong Groningen. He worked there for four years. Later, he became an assistant coach for other teams like Vitesse and Ajax. He also coached the main team of Groningen and De Graafschap. In 2014, he became the technical director for the Indonesia national team.

Pieter Huistra's Playing Career
Pieter Huistra began playing football as an amateur. He played for local clubs like SC Joure. His talent was noticed very quickly. He started his professional football journey at age 17. This was with FC Groningen on September 5, 1984.
After two seasons, he was loaned to BV Veendam. This team was in the Dutch Premier League. Then, coach Kees Rijvers brought him to FC Twente. As a left winger, he became a key player for the team. He even played for the Dutch national team. Sadly, an injury kept him from playing in the 1990 World Cup. He played a total of eight international matches for his country.
Playing for Rangers
From 1990 to 1995, Huistra played for Rangers. This was a big club in the Scottish Premier League. He was the first Dutch player to join the team. While at Rangers, he won many trophies.
He won the League title five times. He also won the Scottish League Cup three times. Plus, he won the Scottish Cup twice. His last game for Rangers was on January 14, 1995. He scored two goals in that match. After Rangers, he moved to Japan to play for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Pieter Huistra's Coaching Career
Pieter Huistra started coaching in 2000. He was an assistant coach for the Dutch U-17 team. In 2001, he moved to Hong Kong. He became an assistant coach for the Hong Kong national team for one year.
After that, he went back to Groningen. He worked with their youth academy. He coached their U-19 team and Jong Groningen for four years. On July 1, 2005, he became an assistant coach at Vitesse Arnhem. He worked under coach Aad de Mos.
Coaching at Ajax and Groningen
After Vitesse, he became an assistant coach at Ajax. On April 24, 2009, he was named the head coach for Jong Ajax, their reserve team. In January 2010, he was announced as the new head coach for the main team of Groningen. This was for the 2010–11 season.
His first season with Groningen was very good. The team played exciting, attacking football. They earned a record number of points. They reached the final of the play-offs for the Europa League. However, they lost on penalties. In his second season, many top players were sold. The team struggled and finished 14th. Because of this, he left the club on May 10, 2012.
Later Coaching Roles
On May 30, 2012, he became the head coach of De Graafschap. This team had recently been relegated. His goal was to help them get back to the top league. In his first season, his new team won a stage title. He was also named manager of the month. They lost in the play-offs for promotion. He signed a new contract. In his second season, he had disagreements with some fans. He was let go on December 24, 2013.
On December 3, 2014, he became the Technical Director for the Indonesian football association, PSSI. On May 7, 2015, he became the temporary head coach for the Indonesia national team. This was for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers. But, FIFA stopped Indonesia from playing. This was because of problems with how football was run there.
In January 2016, Huistra became head coach of the Japanese club Iwaki FC. He helped lead this new club. In their first season, they won several regional and national trophies. On March 31, 2017, he became a technical advisor for AS Trenčín in Slovakia. He then joined Pakhtakor Tashkent FK in Uzbekistan. He was an assistant coach there. They helped the club improve from eighth to third place. They also qualified for the AFC Champions League. In 2019, the club had a great start. They qualified for the Champions League group stage. Huistra left Pakhtakor on January 10, 2022.
