Early Life and Education
Pilar Palomero was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1980. She has worked in many different roles behind the scenes in movies. For example, she has been a camera operator, helping to film scenes. She also worked as an electrician, a cinematographer (who plans how to shoot a film), and an editor.
Pilar studied at the University of Zaragoza. Later, she went to ECAM, a special school for filmmaking. In 2006, she finished her studies there, focusing on how to direct cinematography.
First Films
Pilar started her career by directing short films. Her first short film was called Sonrisas in 2005. She also directed other short films like Niño Balcón and Chan Chán. These shorter movies helped her practice her skills as a director.
Making Feature Films
Pilar Palomero became well-known for her first full-length movie, called a feature film. This film was the 2020 drama Schoolgirls. It's a "coming-of-age" story, which means it shows how young people grow up and learn about life.
Schoolgirls was a big success! Pilar won two Feroz Awards for it: Best Director and Best Screenplay (for writing the story). She also won two Goya Awards, which are very important Spanish film awards. She won for Best New Director and Best Original Screenplay.
