History of Pilot Grove

Pilot Grove was officially planned and created in 1858. Even though it's not a city, it has its own post office. This post office first opened a long time ago, on May 1, 1837.

Changes to the Post Office Name

The post office in Pilot Grove didn't always stay open or keep the same name. It closed for a short time on June 30, 1894. When it reopened on August 7, 1895, it was called Overton. The name wasn't changed back to Pilot Grove until March 19, 1908.

In 1925, the community of Pilot Grove had a population of 65 people. The population stayed the same in 1940, with 65 residents.
