Johan Philip Asbæk (born 2 March 1982), better known as Pilou Asbæk, is a Danish actor. He is famous for his roles as the political advisor Kasper Juul in the Danish TV show Borgen and as the pirate Euron Greyjoy in the popular series Game of Thrones.

Early Life and Education
Asbæk was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. His parents, Maria Patricia and Jacob Asbæk, own an art gallery in Copenhagen called Galerie Asbæk. His mother is of Danish and French heritage, and his father is from the town of Hammel. Pilou has two older brothers, Thomas and Martin.
He attended a boarding school called Herlufsholm School, where he enjoyed acting in plays. After high school, he trained to be a professional actor. He graduated from the Danish National School of Performing Arts in 2008.
Acting Career
Pilou Asbæk has had a successful career in television, movies, and as a TV host.
Television Roles
In 2009, Asbæk appeared in an episode of the Danish crime show The Killing.
His big break came between 2010 and 2013 when he starred in the TV series Borgen. He played Kasper Juul, a "spin doctor," which is someone who helps politicians manage their public image. His performance in the show was highly praised.
In 2014, he was in a historical TV series called 1864. He played a landowner who was dealing with the stress of war.
In 2016, Asbæk became known to audiences worldwide when he joined the HBO series Game of Thrones. He played the fierce pirate leader Euron Greyjoy in the show's sixth season. He has also appeared in other shows like Foundation and Face to Face.

Asbæk has starred in many Danish and international films. In 2011, he played a man in prison in the movie R. A year later, he was in A Hijacking, a film about pirates in Somalia.
In 2013, he played a famous Danish businessman named Simon Spies in the movie ... & Taxation.
He began appearing in major Hollywood movies in 2014. He acted alongside Scarlett Johansson in the science-fiction film Lucy. In 2016, he played Pontius Pilate in the movie Ben-Hur.
In 2017, he played the character Batou in the live-action version of Ghost in the Shell. The next year, he was in the action-horror movie Overlord. He also played a police investigator in the crime film Murderous Trance, which was based on a true story.
More recently, he joined the DC superhero universe as Kordax in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023). He also voiced the character of Mario in the Danish version of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023).

In May 2014, Asbæk co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen. He shared the stage with Lise Rønne and Nikolaj Koppel, presenting the huge music competition to millions of viewers across Europe.
Personal Life
Asbæk is married to playwright Anna Bro. They have been together since 2008 and have a daughter who was born in 2012. Anna's family also includes many famous actors in Denmark.
His nickname, "Pilou," comes from his mother's French background. It is a French version of "Pip" or "Little Philip." He was the youngest son, so his family called him "le plus petit," which means "the littlest" in French. "Pilou" is a short version of "Petit Philip" (Little Philip).
In 2022, Asbæk joined the Social Democrats, a political party in Denmark. He said he wanted to help make positive changes from within the party.
