Dr. Zhang is well-known for helping to connect these two fields. She helped create a community for HCI research within the larger information systems area. She also helped write the very first textbook on HCI for students who weren't studying computer science.

Her Work in Academia

Dr. Zhang has held important roles in the academic world. She was a co-founder and editor-in-chief of a special journal called AIS Transactions on Human–Computer Interaction. She also worked as a senior editor for the Journal of the Association for Information Systems. She even wrote the first article ever published in that journal!

A Historian for Information Systems

From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Zhang was the first-ever historian for the Association for Information Systems. This means she helped record and preserve the history of this important group.

Becoming an ACE Fellow

In 2015, Ping Zhang was chosen as a fellow for the American Council on Education (ACE). This is a special program that helps leaders in higher education grow their skills. She was part of the 2015–2016 group of fellows.

Her Education

Ping Zhang earned her PhD in information systems from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. Before that, she received her master's and bachelor's degrees in computer science from Peking University in Beijing, China.
