Story of the Adventure
Bobby is an eight-year-old boy who lives on a farm in Nebraska. He lives with his mother, Glenna (Dee Wallace), and his grandfather (Charles Napier). Bobby loves to imagine exciting adventures. However, he often gets in trouble for his make-believe games. This makes him think his imagination is a bad thing.
One day, a big storm hits the farm. Bobby's grandfather falls and breaks his arm. Bobby's mother takes his grandfather to the hospital, leaving Bobby alone on the farm.
A Pirate from the Past Arrives
During the storm, something amazing happens. A "vortex in time" opens up. This strange portal brings "Captain" Jezebel Jack to Bobby's farm. Jack is a pirate who was forced to walk the plank on his own ship. He was sent into this time portal.
Jack wakes up in a field of wheat. Bobby finds him and helps him after he passes out again. Jack is very confused by modern things like television. Bobby helps him understand the new world.
The Hunt for Treasure
Bobby tells Jack about an old treasure map. His grandfather had told him a story about it. The map is written in a strange code. Jack, being an experienced adventurer, says it's in "Adventurer's Code." He can read it easily.
The two new friends quickly start following the map. They soon find the treasure buried under an old tool shed.
Pirate Trouble and a Clever Trick
Soon after they find the treasure, another time portal opens. This time, the rest of Jack's old pirate crew arrives! They were the ones who mutinied against him. The crew quickly learn about the treasure. They attack Jack and Bobby, trying to take it.
Bobby and Jack try to defend the house and the treasure. Bobby and Jack have become good friends by now. But then, the pirate crew captures Bobby! They demand the treasure in exchange for the boy. Jack has no choice but to hand over what they think is the treasure.
Bobby is set free, but Jack is forced to go with the crew. They are all teleported back to their own time.
The Fake Treasure
The pirate crew soon discovers they've been tricked! The "treasure" they got is fake. It's just bricks covered in aluminum foil. By the time the crew realizes this, Jezebel Jack manages to escape. He jumps into some murky water, which sends him back through the time portal. He lands right back on the Nebraska plains with Bobby.
