The Story of Pittsville
Pittsville was first planned out in 1858. This process is called "platting," which means someone drew up a map showing where streets and lots would go. The community was named after a local minister named Warren M. Pitts.
A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, opened in Pittsville in 1860. This post office was an important part of the community for many years. It stayed open and served the people of Pittsville until 1954.
