A Look Back in Time
Early Days
Pleasant Grove has a long history. A post office served the community for many years, from 1815 until 1908. In the early 1900s, farmers in the area grew a lot of tobacco. This tobacco was brought to Pleasant Grove to be processed.
The School's Story
In 1922, Pleasant Grove High School was built. It was for white students in grades eight through ten. Later, in 1962, it became an elementary school.
The school closed in 1971. This happened because of new rules that aimed to end segregation in schools across the county. Some parts of the old school building were taken down. However, the cafeteria and gym area remained. Today, this part of the building is used as the Pleasant Grove Community Center. It's a place where people in the community can gather.
