Plinia yasuniana is a special kind of plant that belongs to the Myrtaceae family. This family also includes plants like eucalyptus and guava. This plant is a shrub, which means it's a woody plant smaller than a tree. It usually grows to be between 1 and 3 metres tall.

Where Does Plinia yasuniana Live?

This plant is found only in one specific place on Earth. It is endemic to the Amazonian rainforest in north-east Ecuador. You can find it growing in the understory of the forest, which is the layer of plants that grow beneath the main canopy of tall trees. Its home is inside the famous Yasuni National Park.

What Does Plinia yasuniana Look Like?

The Plinia yasuniana plant has unique features. It produces white flowers that are about 4 to 6 millimetres long. These flowers are cauliflorous, which means they grow directly from the plant's main stem or branches, not from new shoots.

After the flowers, the plant grows yummy yellow fruits. These fruits are round and about 30 millimetres across, which is about the size of a small plum. You can usually see the flowers and fruits appearing between August and November.

Scientists discovered this plant in 2009. They decided to name it after the place where it was found. That's why it's called Plinia yasuniana, named after the beautiful Yasuni National Park in Ecuador.
