Pokémon Glitch facts for kids
Pokemon Glitches are like secret tricks or unexpected things that happen in the Pokemon games. They are not supposed to happen, but sometimes players find ways to make them work! The most famous one is the Mew glitch in the first Pokemon games, Red, Blue, and Yellow. This article will explain how that special trick works.

The Mew Glitch
The Mew glitch is a super cool trick that lets you catch the rare Pokemon, Mew, in the original Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow games. It's also sometimes called the "Trainer Fly Glitch" because it involves flying away from a trainer at just the right moment. This glitch only works in these specific older games, not in newer Pokemon adventures.
What Can You Catch?
While this trick is famous for catching Mew, you can actually use it to find many other Pokemon too! You can even find some unusual "glitch Pokemon" that aren't normally in the game. However, this trick won't work for every single Pokemon, especially some very specific ones that the game's code can't handle this way.
How to Perform the Mew Glitch
Performing the Mew glitch takes a few careful steps. You'll need to find a special trainer, have a Pokemon that knows a move like Fly or Teleport, and be ready for a battle!
Step 1: Find the Right Trainer
First, you need to find a "Long-Sight Trainer." This is a trainer who can see you from far away. A good example is the trainer on the route leading to Bill's house. He's the one who says something like, "I saw your feet from the grass!" Position yourself just outside his sight.
Step 2: The Quick Escape
Walk one step into the trainer's sight. As soon as you do, quickly press the "Start" button to open your game menu. If you did it right, the menu will pop up before the trainer can start a battle with you. From this menu, use a move like Fly or Teleport to leave the area immediately.
Step 3: Battle Another Trainer
Now, go to a different trainer you want to battle. It's important not to talk to this trainer or walk directly into them in a way that starts the battle automatically. Instead, position yourself so you can walk into their line of sight to start the fight. After you win this battle, your "Start" menu will pop up on its own. Close the menu.
Step 4: The Ditto Encounter
Next, go to a route where you can find wild Ditto, like the Pokemon Mansion. Find a wild Ditto and start a battle. Let Ditto use its "Transform" move on your Pokemon. The "Special" stat of the Pokemon Ditto transforms into is very important for what Pokemon you will catch later. For Mew, this stat needs to be 21.
Step 5: Catch Your Mew
After Ditto transforms, finish the battle. Now, head back to the route where you first encountered the "Long-Sight Trainer" (like the one near Bill's house). As you enter the route, your "Start" menu will appear again. Close the menu, and a wild Mew will appear at Level 7, ready for you to catch!
