Polaris World facts for kids
Polaris World was a company that built and sold holiday homes, mostly around golf courses, in Spain. It was started in 2001 by Pedro García Meroño and Facundo Armero. The golf courses were designed by Nicklaus Design, a company created by famous golfer Jack Nicklaus and his sons.
Polaris World built many resorts in the Costa Calida area of Spain. The idea was to create a "golf trail" where people could visit different resorts. For a while, Polaris World was the biggest builder of holiday homes in Spain. They were also the largest golf resort developer in the Murcia area.
What Was Polaris World?
Polaris World developed seven different resorts in Murcia. These resorts varied in size, from about 55 hectares (which is like 135 football fields) to over 900 hectares (more than 2,200 football fields!). Most of them were around 100 to 150 hectares.
Some of their well-known resorts included:
- Mar Menor
- La Torre
- El Valle
The biggest resort was Condado de Alhama, which was over 900 hectares and had its own golf course. This large resort was also quite close to the new Murcia International Airport, Corvera Airport, about a 25-minute drive away.
Why Did Polaris World Close?
Polaris World sold many of its properties in 2010. The company faced big financial problems starting in 2008 because of a worldwide economic crisis and issues with property sales in Spain. They needed a lot of extra money to keep going in 2009.
Even though they managed to avoid closing down in 2010, the company continued to struggle. By 2012, the prices of their properties had dropped a lot. Eventually, Polaris World officially closed down in 2017.
