The town of Ponder got its name from a person! It was named after Pleasant John Ponder. He was the first person to own the land where the town was built.

When Ponder Had a Post Office

A very important part of any town is its post office. Ponder had its own post office, which first opened in 1888. This office helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1957. When a town's post office closes, it often means fewer people are living there.
