Pontiac Sunfire facts for kids
The Pontiac Sunfire was a car made by Pontiac. It was sold from 1995 to 2005. The Sunfire took the place of an older car called the Pontiac Sunbird. Later, another car, the Pontiac G5, replaced the Sunfire. The G5 was very similar to the Chevrolet Cobalt, but it had a different name.
You could buy the Pontiac Sunfire in a few different styles. It came as a sedan, which is a regular four-door car. It was also available as a convertible, which has a roof that can fold down. And for those who liked a sportier look, there was a coupe, which is a two-door car.
The Sunfire's Beginning
The first Pontiac Sunfire came out after the Pontiac Sunbird stopped being made in the 1990s. This new car was a fresh start for Pontiac in that size category. A few years later, in the early 2000s, the Sunfire got a small update to its look. This is called a "facelift" in the car world.
Safety Information
When the Pontiac Sunfire was tested for safety, it didn't do very well in certain crash tests. For example, in a special "offset test" done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Sunfire didn't perform as strongly as some other cars. Its twin car, the Chevrolet Cavalier, also had similar results in these tests.
