The Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe is a group of S'Klallam people. They live on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State. This tribe is officially recognized by the United States government. They are part of the many Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast.

About the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe
The Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe was once known by other names. These included the Port Gamble Indian Community of the Port Gamble Reservation. They were also called the Port Gamble Band of S'Klallam Indians. Today, they are a strong and recognized tribe.
Their Home: The Reservation
The Port Gamble S'Klallam Reservation is their special homeland. It is located in the northern part of Kitsap County, Washington. The tribe established this reservation in 1938. All the land on the reservation is owned by the tribe together.
The reservation covers about 1,303 acres. That's like more than 980 football fields! In 2010, about 916 people lived on the reservation. The United States government counts this area as the Port Gamble Tribal Community.
Speaking S'Klallam
The S'Klallam people have their own special language. It is called the S'Klallam language. This language is part of a bigger language family called Central Salish. The S'Klallam language is very similar to a dialect of the Straits Salish language.
To help keep their language alive, a grammar book has been made. The S'Klallam language is also taught in schools. Children learn it in elementary school and high school.
