Potatoes and Dragons is a fun animated TV show from Canada and France. It was made by companies like Alphanim and Cinar. The show was first shown in 2004. It tells the story of a grumpy king, a kind princess, and a dragon who just wants to live in peace! The series has 26 episodes, with each episode usually having three short stories.

Meet the Characters!

King Hugo III: The Grumpy Ruler

King Hugo III is the ruler of the land of the potatoes. He gets upset very easily! He is also quite stubborn. King Hugo really dislikes the local dragon. He often bosses everyone around, especially his helper, Harry. He's almost never in a good mood. This is often because the Dragon breathes fire at him! Voiced by Danny Wells.

Harry: The King's Helper

Harry is King Hugo's main assistant. He tends to be a bit forgetful. Harry often has to do most of the king's difficult jobs.

The Knights: Dragon Slayers?

In almost every episode, a new knight appears. Sometimes it's even a lady knight! These knights are very different. Some are warriors, others are scientists. They all promise to defeat the dragon. They might want to capture it or even make it friendly. Usually, they hope to marry Princess Melody. Sometimes they just want other rewards. These knights often end up fighting with King Hugo. Or they get chased out of the kingdom!

Melody: The Dragon's Friend

Melody is the princess with blonde hair. She loves the dragon very much! If anything bad happens to the dragon, her love for Riri might end. So, she often tries to stop plans to hurt the dragon. Many knights want to marry her. She either looks very happy or very disgusted by their offers. Melody wears a pink gown and a smooth crown. The Dragon has never breathed fire at her because they are good friends. Voiced by Carrie Finlay.

Riri: The Hero Jester

Riri is the court jester and the hero of the show. He loves Princess Melody. He also helps to stop plans to kill the Dragon. Riri often teases Juju, which can make Juju mad sometimes. The Dragon once accidentally breathed fire at Riri. But the Dragon wasn't trying to hit him. He was aiming for King Hugo and a knight! Voiced by Mark Hauser.

Juju: The Prankster Kid

Juju is a child who lives in the castle. He often helps Riri. But Juju can get upset and moody easily. He loves playing pranks and making fun of King Hugo just for fun. Juju is good friends with the Dragon and always tries to help him. He works with Melody and Riri to save the Dragon's life. They try to stop King Hugo's ideas for getting rid of the Dragon. The Dragon once accidentally breathed fire at Juju. Juju got mad because it ruined his favorite ball. But after a while, they became friends again. Juju knew the Dragon didn't mean to hurt his feelings. Voiced by Annie Bovaird.

Dragon: The Fiery Friend

The Dragon lives peacefully in the kingdom. But he really dislikes crowns! Because of this, he can't help but breathe fire at King Hugo every time they meet. Even when King Hugo is just minding his own business, the Dragon still plans to flame him! The Dragon cannot talk. You only hear his voice when he sighs, laughs, cries, yells, screams, or hums. His breath is always stinky when he spreads it around and breathes fire. Sometimes, he can even be stinky himself! He sometimes likes a lady dragon, almost like a girlfriend. But he mostly loves being alone. He is good friends with Melody, Juju, and Riri. He would never breathe fire at them on purpose. They are all best friends and help him when King Hugo tries to get rid of him. The Dragon can even breathe fire through pictures, ice, and the phone! Voiced by Mark Camacho.

Merlin: The Unlucky Wizard

Merlin is the king's loyal magic user. This wizard's spells and potions usually don't work. They often end up exploding in King Hugo's face! Merlin often helps the princess, Riri, and Juju to save the dragon. Voiced by John Vamvas.

Roger the Talking Carrot: The Advisor

Roger is a carrot that can talk! He advises the knights on how to defeat the dragon. He doesn't have any other big role in the story. He mainly tells the knights about the dragon's weaknesses. He might also become a tasty snack if he upsets a knight! Voiced by John Locke.

What's the Show About?

The show usually starts with a new knight arriving. This knight wants to defeat the dragon. After a funny "battle," the knight either leaves scared, runs away, or sometimes even leaves happy!
