What Does Potrerillos Mean?
The name "Potrerillos" means "Little Pastures." This name comes from the many stone walls found in the area. These walls were built many centuries ago by the local people.
Spanish settlers directed the building of these walls. They wanted to create pastures for their cattle. This is how the area got its unique name.
Upper and Lower Potrerillos
The Potrerillos area is split into two main towns. These are Potrerillos Abajo and Potrerillos Arriba. "Abajo" means "lower" in Spanish, and "Arriba" means "upper."
So, Potrerillos Abajo is the "Lower Little Pastures." Both towns are close to the city of David. They are also near the famous mountain, Volcán Barú.
