Powhattan, Ohio facts for kids
Powhattan is a small, unincorporated community located in Champaign County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.
A Look Back: Powhattan's Story
Powhattan began to form sometime around the 1850s. This means people started settling and building homes there over 170 years ago! The community was named in honor of Chief Powhatan. He was a powerful leader of a large group of Native American tribes. These tribes lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Chief Powhatan was the father of Pocahontas, a famous historical figure.
