Prairie Center, Nebraska facts for kids
Prairie Center is a small place in Nebraska, a state in the United States. It's what's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Buffalo County.
A Look Back: The History of Prairie Center
Even though Prairie Center isn't a big city, it has its own history! A long time ago, in 1874, a post office was opened there. A post office was super important back then because it was how people sent and received letters and packages. It connected communities to the rest of the world.
This post office served the people of Prairie Center for many years. It stayed open until 1902, which means it was active for about 28 years. For most of that time, until 1893, the name of the post office was actually spelled Prairie Centre, with an "e" at the end. Later, it changed to the spelling we use today: Prairie Center.
