Preparation, Iowa facts for kids
Preparation is a ghost town located in Monona County, Iowa, in the United States. A ghost town is a place where most people have left, often because a local industry or resource disappeared.
History of Preparation
Preparation was founded in 1853 by a religious group. This group was led by a man named Charles B. Thompson. They believed that life on Earth was a way to "prepare" for what comes after, which is how the town got its unique name.
The town had its own post office, which opened in 1854. It served the community for many years before closing down in 1904.
Today, the area where Preparation once stood is part of a beautiful natural space called Preparation Canyon State Park. Visitors can explore the park and imagine what life was like in the old town.
