Preston is a small community in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2020, about 169 people lived there. Preston got its name from Harry Preston, an oilman from Okmulgee, and its post office opened way back on December 13, 1909.

Preston's Past: From Oil to Trains
Preston used to be known as Hamilton Switch. Long ago, it was a very busy and successful place. This was mainly because of the oil boom, when lots of oil was discovered in the area. Many nearby communities also grew quickly because of the oil industry.
Later, when the oil business slowed down in Preston, the community found new ways to thrive. It became an important stop for trains, where they could get supplies. It was also used for cattle trails, and trains would load water from Frisco Lake.
