The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic (in Czech: Předseda vlády České republiky) is the main leader of the country's government. They are the most powerful person in the executive branch. This part of the government carries out laws and manages the country.
The Constitution is the country's main rulebook. It says that the President needs the Prime Minister's approval for many important decisions. These include choosing judges and ambassadors. The Prime Minister also helps lead the military. They also approve international agreements and grant pardons.
The current Prime Minister is Petr Fiala. He is the leader of the ODS. President Miloš Zeman officially appointed him on December 17, 2021. This happened after the 2021 election. He is the 13th person to hold this important job.

What Does the Prime Minister Do?
The Prime Minister has many important duties. They can remove a government member from their position. This might happen if there are issues with secret information. Because of their role, the Prime Minister speaks for the Czech Republic at big international meetings. One such meeting is the European Council. They also receive a special diplomatic passport.
Important Responsibilities
The Prime Minister is also in charge of the General Inspection of Security Forces. They choose and can remove its director. The director reports directly to the Prime Minister. This ensures security forces are working correctly.
Article 63 of the Constitution explains more duties. It states that the Prime Minister is responsible for signing government decisions. They sign these alongside the whole government of the Czech Republic. The Prime Minister can also let another government member sign instead. They can even refuse to sign certain decisions if they disagree.
How Powerful is the Prime Minister?
The Prime Minister holds significant power. A big power is being able to change the entire government. They can replace ministers by their own decision. They can also declare a state of emergency if there is a serious crisis.
Making Big Decisions
If the Prime Minister declares a state of emergency, the government must act quickly. They must approve or cancel this decision within 24 hours. If the government faces a very tough decision during a crisis, the Prime Minister makes the final call. They do this together with the Ministry of Defense.
Where Does the Prime Minister Live?
The Prime Minister lives in a beautiful building called Kramář's Villa. This grand house was built between 1911 and 1914. A famous architect from Vienna, Friedrich Ohmann, designed it. It serves as both a home and a place for official duties.
