The prime minister of the Czech Republic (in Czech: Předseda vlády České republiky) is the main leader of the government of the Czech Republic. They are the most powerful person in the executive branch, which is the part of government that carries out laws.
The country's Constitution says that some actions by the president need the prime minister's approval. This includes choosing judges and ambassadors. It also includes leading the military and signing important agreements.
The current prime minister is Petr Fiala. He is the leader of the ODS. President Miloš Zeman officially made him prime minister on November 28, 2021. He became the 13th person to hold this important job.

What Does the Prime Minister Do?
The prime minister has many important duties. They can remove a member of the government from their position. This can happen if there are issues with classified information, which is secret government data.
Representing the Czech Republic
Because of their job, the prime minister represents the Czech Republic in the European Council. This is a group of leaders from countries in Europe. They also get a special diplomatic passport for travel.
Leading Security Forces
The prime minister is also in charge of the General Inspection of Security Forces. This group checks on the police and other security agencies. The prime minister chooses who leads this group and can also remove them. The leader of this group reports directly to the prime minister.
Signing Government Decisions
According to Article 63 of the Constitution, the prime minister is responsible for signing decisions. They sign these decisions along with the entire government of the Czech Republic. The prime minister can also let another government member sign for them. They can also refuse to sign a decision if they disagree.
Prime Minister's Powers
The prime minister has important powers to help run the country. One big power is being able to change the entire government. They can also declare a state of emergency if there is a big problem.
Emergency Decisions
If a state of emergency is declared, the government must agree or cancel it within 24 hours. If there is a major decision-making problem in the government, the prime minister makes the final choice. They work with the Ministry of Defense during such times.
Where the Prime Minister Lives
The official home of the prime minister is Kramář's Villa. This beautiful building was constructed between 1911 and 1914. It was designed by an architect from Vienna named Friedrich Ohmann.
