The Primitive Methodist Church is a Christian group that is part of the Methodist family. It started in England in the early 1800s. An American preacher named Lorenzo Dow helped inspire its beginnings.
Today, the Primitive Methodist Church has churches in the United States. In 1996, it had 83 churches and about 8,487 members. In other places like Great Britain and Australia, the Primitive Methodist Church joined with other Methodist groups. For example, in Great Britain, it became part of the Methodist Church of Great Britain in 1932. In Australia, it joined the Methodist Church of Australasia in 1901. Later, this group became part of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977.

What Primitive Methodists Believe
The Primitive Methodist Church follows Christian teachings and practices. They believe in two main special ceremonies, called sacraments. These are Baptism and Holy Communion.
