The Prince of Conti was an important title in old France. It was used by a special group of princes called Princes of the Blood. These princes were very close to the royal family. They were also called Serene Highness. This was a fancy way to show their high rank. The oldest son of the Prince of Conti often used other titles. These included Prince of La Roche-sur-Yon or Count of La Marche.

Who Were the Princes of Conti?

The title of Prince of Conti was first given in 1581. It was a special honor for members of the French royal family. These princes were part of the House of Bourbon. They played a role in the history of France.

  • François, Prince of Conti (1558-1614): He was the first person to be called Prince of Conti. He became a marquis in 1558 and then the first prince in 1581. When he died, he had no children. So, the title was not passed on right away.

The title was given again in 1629 to a new family member.

  • Armand, Prince of Conti (1629-1666): He was the second Prince of Conti.
  • Louis Armand, Prince of Conti (1666-1685): He was the third prince.
