Priscilla Cummings is an American author born on April 13, 1951. She writes fun picture books for younger kids and exciting novels for teens. She is famous for her book Chadwick the Crab and the popular novel Red Kayak.

Priscilla Cummings' Writing Career
Priscilla Cummings grew up on a farm in Ludlow, Massachusetts. She was the middle child of three. She studied English at the University of New Hampshire.
After college, Priscilla became a journalist. For 10 years, she wrote for newspapers in different states. In the 1980s, she moved to Maryland. There, she worked as a writer and editor for Baltimore magazine. In Maryland, she met and married fellow journalist John Frece in 1983.
How She Started Writing Books
While still working as a reporter, Priscilla began writing her first book. It was called Chadwick the Crab. Many publishers said no to her story at first. But in 1986, Tidewater Publishers finally accepted it.
In the same year, Priscilla had her first child. Three years later, she had her second child. She decided to stay home and take care of them. To keep writing, she started creating more picture books for children. She wrote several other books in the Chadwick series.
Writing for Young Adults
In 1997, Priscilla published her first novel for young adults. It was called Autumn Journey. When her own children started high school, she decided to focus more on writing novels for teens.

Priscilla Cummings is married to John Frece. They have two children.
