Professor Pyg facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Professor Pyg is a supervillain who appears in DC Comics comic books. He was created by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert. Professor Pyg became popular again in 2011 after DC's The New 52 comics were launched.

His real name in the comics is Lazlo Valentin. He was a scientist whose mind became confused, leading him to become a supervillain who wears a pig mask. Grant Morrison, one of his creators, thought he was "one of the strangest and most unusual characters" in Batman comics.

Pyg is very focused on making things "perfect" in his own strange way. He believes that people are not perfect. He tries to change people into his "Dollotrons," which are like mind-controlled puppets.

Grant Morrison got the name "Professor Pyg" from a song called "Pygmalism." The name "Pyg" also comes from "Pygmalion." This refers to an old story about a sculptor who fell in love with his own creation. It also refers to a play from 1913. These stories are similar to Lazlo Valentin and his strange love for his Dollotron creations.

Professor Pyg usually wears a pig mask, a simple surgical outfit, and a butcher's apron. Much of his first comic book clothing was designed by Frank Quitely. It was inspired by the fancy suits worn in the Edwardian era by Rex Harrison in the movie My Fair Lady.

Pyg started appearing in other media in 2013. He was in the animated series Beware the Batman. Since then, he has also appeared in video games, other TV shows, and movies. People who write about entertainment have said good things about the character. They see him as a strange and interesting addition to Batman's group of villains.
