Prospect Heights, Colorado is a small community located near Lincoln Park. It is found south of Cañon City, Colorado in Fremont County. This area is west of State Highway 115 and south of a place called Capitol Hill.
The Story of Prospect Heights
Prospect Heights became an official town on May 10, 1905. This happened because nearby Cañon City decided to ban certain types of businesses. Right after Prospect Heights became a town, many new businesses opened there.
Prospect Heights stayed an official town until around 1990. At that time, its water system stopped working well. The town then started getting its water from Cañon City. Because of this, Prospect Heights was no longer an official town.
Historic Buildings in Prospect Heights
The old town jail in Prospect Heights is still standing today. People are working to fix it up as an important historical site. This jail was built in 1906. It is now listed on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties. This means it is recognized as a special place from the past.
Other old buildings also remain in Prospect Heights. One of these is the Prospect Heights Mercantile Store. A mercantile store is like a general store that sells many different things. This old store is now open and working as a store again.
The community of Prospect Heights is located at an elevation of about 5,433 feet (1,656 meters) above sea level.
