About the Prospect Hotel
The Prospect Hotel is found on Mill Creek Drive, which is the main street in Prospect. It sits on a big piece of land, about 5 acres, along with some small cabins for tourists. It's close to the local school and store. The hotel is also not far from Oregon Route 62, which is the main road that takes you from Medford all the way to the amazing Crater Lake.
A Historic Building
The hotel building itself is shaped like the letter "L". It has four large gables, which are the triangular parts of a roof. Around 1915, a wide porch, called a veranda, was added. This veranda is about 10 feet wide and wraps around three sides of the main building. There's also a small shed added to the back of the hotel.
From Home to Hotel
The building was first owned by A. H. Boothby, who called it the Boothby House. In the late 1800s, it was turned into a hotel. This was a great idea because many people were traveling by wagon to visit Crater Lake.
Welcoming Travelers
In the early 1900s, more and more people started traveling by car. The Prospect Hotel became a popular stop for these new automobile tourists. It was a perfect place to rest before or after visiting Crater Lake.
