Prunus texana, also known as peachbush or Texas almond cherry, is a cool plant. It grows naturally in central and western Texas. People also call it Texas peachbush, sand plum, peach bush, or wild peach. Even though it looks a lot like a peach tree, it's actually a type of plum. It belongs to a group of plums found in North America. This plant is considered Near Threatened, which means it needs our attention to protect it.

What Does the Peachbush Look Like?
The peachbush (Prunus texana) is a small, bushy plant. It usually grows to be about 3 feet (1 meter) tall. It can spread out to be 1.5 to 5 feet (0.5 to 1.5 meters) wide. Its branches have short, soft hairs.
Flowers and Fruits
In February and March, the peachbush shows off beautiful white or pink flowers. Each flower is about 0.4 to 0.6 inches (1.0 to 1.5 cm) across. After the flowers, egg-shaped fruits appear. These fruits are yellow or greenish-yellow. The leaves of the peachbush are thin and oval-shaped. They have small teeth along their edges.
Mixing with Other Plants
Prunus texana can easily mix its genes with other plum species. This includes both wild plums and plums grown by people. This mixing creates new kinds of plants.
Special Types of Peachbush
Some special types of peachbush have been developed. These are called 'cultivars'. Some well-known cultivars include 'Bolen', 'Gephart', 'Johnson', and 'Stuart'.
