Early Music Career
Przemysław Gintrowski began his music journey in 1976. His first public performance was with a song called "Epitaph for Sergei Yesenin." This was just the start of his amazing career.
Forming a Trio
In 1979, Gintrowski joined forces with two other great artists: Jacek Kaczmarski and Zbigniew Łapiński. Together, they formed a musical trio. They created a special show called "Mury," which means "Walls."
The Song "Mury"
The main song from their show, also called "Mury," became very famous. It was based on a song by a Spanish singer named Lluis Llach. "Mury" became a symbol for the Polish trade union Solidarity. This union was a big group of workers who wanted more freedom and better lives in Poland. The song helped people feel strong and hopeful during a difficult time when Poland was under a strict government. The trio also created other popular shows like "Raj" (Paradise) and "Museum."
Music During Tough Times
In December 1981, a difficult period began in Poland called martial law. This meant the government took strict control, and people had fewer freedoms. Because of this, the trio broke up. Jacek Kaczmarski had to stay in France, and Przemysław Gintrowski started working on his own.
Composing for Films
After the trio split, Gintrowski began writing music for movies and TV shows. For the next ten years, he created music for over twenty films and series. His music helped tell the stories in these films.
Notable Film Scores
Some of his famous film scores include music for Andrzej Wajda's movie "Man of Iron." He also composed for "Mother of Kings" by Janusz Zaorski and the comedy TV series "Zmiennicy" (Shiftworkers). Even though he was busy with film music, he still wrote songs for other singers.
Later Recordings
For many years, Gintrowski didn't record his own songs. However, he eventually released another album called "Kanapka z człowiekiem," which means "Human Sandwich." This album included some of his older songs and some brand new ones.
Awards and Recognition
Przemysław Gintrowski's contributions to music and Polish culture were recognized. On August 31, 2006, the President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, honored him with The Order of Polonia Restituta. This is a very important award given to people who have done great things for Poland.
