Local restaurants in Puerto Vallarta are a big part of the festival. Each participating restaurant invites a special guest chef. Together, they create unique menus and host exciting food events.
Fun Events to Enjoy
During the festival, there are many cool activities for everyone. You can find events like:
- A big Sunday brunch with lots of gourmet food.
- Special sessions for tasting different wines.
- Chances to try cheeses from all over the world.
Some restaurants also host "Chef's Table" dinners. These are special meals where you can meet the chefs. There are also "Winemakers' dinners" where you learn about wine. The festival usually ends with a fancy "Gala Dinner" called The Spirit of Mexico.
How the Festival Started
The idea for this amazing food festival came from three people. They were Thierry Blouet from Cafe des Artistes, Heinz Reize from Hotel Krystal, and Sivan Muller from Nestle.
They launched the very first festival in 1995. It ran from November 18 to November 26. Six fancy hotels and six restaurants joined in. Twelve guest chefs also came to share their talents. Over the years, more than 200 famous chefs have taken part in the festival!
Famous Chefs at the Festival
Many well-known chefs have visited the festival. In 2003, a very special guest was Anton Mosimann. He is a famous chef from Switzerland and London. He even received an honor from Queen Elizabeth II!
Another important guest is Gerard Dupont. He is the president of the Academie Culinaire de France. He comes every year to teach cooking classes. He shares his cooking secrets with other chefs and with the public.
