Where is Puerto de Sagunto?
This town is located about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) east-southeast of the old part of Sagunto. It covers the central eastern area of the municipality, stretching from Av. Ramón y Cajal all the way to the coast. To the north, it shares a border with the town of Canet d'en Berenguer. To the west, you'll find the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.
A Look at Its History
Puerto de Sagunto gets its name from its important port. This port has always been a key place for trade and industry, and it still is today.
Growth and Industry
In the late 1900s, a large steel factory called Altos Hornos del Mediterráneo (which means Mediterranean Blast Furnaces) was very important for the town's growth. This factory operated from 1971 to 1984. It brought many jobs and helped the town become bigger. The lovely beach of Puerto de Sagunto also became a popular spot for tourists, which helped the town grow even more.
Modern Connections
In 2017, the local government of Sagunto, the Valencian regional government, and the Port Authority of Valencia all agreed on a plan. They decided to build a new road, a branch of the CV-309, to make it easier to get to Puerto de Sagunto. This helps connect the town better and supports its ongoing activities.
